About me

Hello! My name is Arkadiusz Rataj, and I am an artist whose creative explorations encompass painting, installations, and music, all united by a common denominator: technology.

One example is my series of algorithmic paintings. It is an attempt to capture, through art, the processes taking place inside digital devices such as computers, smartphones, and tablets when they encrypt data on the Internet or sort a playlist of favorite songs. The structure of each painting, namely the arrangement of its elements, is determined by the operation of a selected algorithm. The complexity of these compositions requires the use of custom software that I developed myself, and the resulting output is then transferred onto canvas. There, using traditional painting techniques, I reinterpret it through an artistic lens.

Another manifestation of the same idea can be found in my musical work. Thanks to contemporary software tools, each performance becomes an opportunity for the audience to witness the living, dynamic process of a composition coming into being: silence gradually gives way to successive layers of recorded and looped electronic sounds, which form the backdrop for the electric guitar.

I develop both branches of my artistic practice using widely available technological tools, above all the computer. The synergy between human and machine that emerges from this process demonstrates that technology can, and should, serve humanity as a means of spiritual and emotional growth.

My work has been exhibited and recognized in competitions dedicated to digital art and new technologies. In 2023, my pieces received two first prizes and the Audience Award in the Digital Ars competition. I am also a laureate of the “Where Next? Creators of Change” competition, which recognizes individuals exploring innovative ways of using technology in artistic and social practice.
