Clouds

The “Clouds” is an artistic project aims to demonstrate the phenomenon of pareidolia in the context of artificial intelligence. Pareidolia is the human tendency to recognize familiar shapes in random patterns.

The project is based on an artificial neural network trained to recognize objects in images. The ‘deep dream’ technique was employed to modify selected network layers, resulting in unusual visualizations. These layers and their intensity were specially adjusted to generate organic shapes, such as animals and plants.

The final image underwent minimal graphic processing to achieve the intended artistic effect. This work is designed to prompt viewers to contemplate how artificial intelligence analyzes images and what shapes are significant to it.

In 2023 the “Clouds” won the first place in the Digital Ars competition in Warsaw.
